4th-Axis Table With
Hydraulic Brake Tailstock |
The hydraulic tailstock with internal hydraulic brake provides this 4th-axis vertical machining with a more rigid fixturing setup. This is a custom 4th-axis table with sequenced built-in pulldown clamps for machining several different sizes of diesel engine cylinder heads. The PROHOLD® hydraulic pump has two circuits - one for the hydraulic brake and the other to operate the pulldown clamps. The brake is released and activated by the machine control when indexing the table.

In addition to the Quadraulic Vise System, PROHOLD® manufactures standard small and large modular tombstones for vertical machining centers. Vertical fixturing, like the one shown on the left, can be manufactured to accommodate modular tooling on each face of the tombstone. In addition to just using the standard modular tooling holes on each face of the tombstone, PROHOLD® Workholding can install its patented PROHOLD® chucking stations on different faces of the tombstone for a comprehensive versatile workholding system that will hold anything you need to machine.

4-th AXIS VERTICAL FIXTURES
The 4th-Axis Vertical workholding system can be ordered with any number of chucking stations that will fit within your machine's table travel. Hydraulic models come with a Tailstock Unit that has through-the-tailstock hydraulics and a built-in automatic brake for rotational stability while machining.

Flexible Low-Profile chucks can be used on vertical or horizontal machining centers, EDM, grinding machines and transfer lines. These can be ordered as 2-, 3- or 4-jaw self-centering chucks. They can be mounted flat on back, on end, or on one side for vertical or horizontal workholding. They come in sizes from 8" to 48" chucking diameter. These patented chucking units can be mounted adjacent to each other so that only one hydraulic pumping unit is necessary to operate any one vise by using common internal hydraulic porting through each unit. Each unit comes with its own valve and pressure gauge, and can be ordered with the optional jaw travel limiting adjustment.

The Quadraulic Vise, shown at the right attached to the hydraulic tailstock unit with internal brake, is for use on vertical and horizontal machining centers. This vise unit is capable of clamping on the inside or outside surface of parts. There are two clamping stations on each of the four faces. Aluminum or steel jaws can be ordered with this vise. Parts the full length of the vise face can be held by utilizing one dead jaw and the opposite end moving master jaw. This vise can also be used for quick-change mounting and securing of fixturing sub-plates into position for machining. Approximately 6 tons of clamping force can be applied with this unit.

The standard PROHOLD® Quadraulic Vise System includes the Quadraulic Vise, a PROHOLD® tailstock unit with or without internal hydraulic brake, a PROHOLD® external hydraulic pumping unit, and a full set of top jaws (steel or aluminum, your choice). At this time the Quadraulic Vise System is mounted to your 4th-axis dividing head, indexer or super spacer. In the near future, PROHOLD® will offer a 4th-axis indexing head for a complete Quadraulic Vise System package for vertical machining centers. This 4th-axis head will readily mount to the standard PROHOLD® Quadraulic Vise System package being produced now. The PROHOLD® Quadraulic Vise System gives you extra capabilities for a definite increase in productivity that no other vise unit on the market today can provide.

Standard PROHOLD® Quadraulic vises can be used on vertical (this model shown below) or horizontal machining centers. The Toolroom Quadraulic Vise, a variant of the standard Quadraulic Vise, integrates the patented PROHOLD® chucking stations on different faces of the Quadraulic. Features of the custom Quadraulic Vise are explained below.

The standard and Toolroom Quadraulic vises have the capability to clamp parts either on the inside/internal and/or outside/external surfaces of the workpiece. Each of the four faces on the standard Quadraulic has two clamping stations. The standard Quadraulic uses jaws that snap into place on dovetailed moving master jaw ball detents. The top jaws can be used for engaging a part on its external surface for outside clamping or chucking, or an interior surface of a part for internal clamping or chucking. Two parts can be held on each face of the vise unit, either internally or externally clamped. Larger parts that span the full length and width of a vise face, and more, can also be clamped by using only one of the moving master jaws and a dead jaw at the opposite end of the vise.

The Toolroom Quadraulic Vise is what every tool room and millwright shop in the world should have on their vertical milling machine to eliminate endless setups and teardowns for each different part that crosses the machine table. It has different workholding mechanisms on each face. The first face has one or more 3-jaw chucking stations on it for clamping round parts either on the ID or OD. The second face has one or more 2-jaw chucking/clamping stations for holding rectangular parts, or irregular shaped parts through the use of machined soft jaws. The third face can either have a basic drilled and tapped hole grid pattern for the use of modular fixturing components, or, one or more 2-jaw chucking/clamping stations that are orientated 90° out from the 2-jaw chucking stations on the second face. The fourth face has the standard Quadraulic 2-station vise, as seen above, that can hold parts equal to the full length and width of the vise face or more. The Toolroom Quadraulic vise can be ordered with any mix of the above chucking configurations the customer needs for his particular situation. The 2-, and 3-jaw chucking stations on each face of a Toolroom Quadraulic Vise can also be ordered for manual operation instead of hydraulic actuation.
