It's a real jungle out there these days when it comes to manual vises and vise towers. PROHOLD's new PACHYDERM VISE TOWER will keep you from wasting time, monkeying around with all of those manual, time-consuming clusters that make life hard on the operator. These vise towers eliminate ergonomic problems associated with manually operated vises while providing operator-independent clamping force on each part for more consistent part-to-part as machined dimensional stability.
PROHOLD® PACHYDERM Vise Towers have their own 24-volt internal, closed-loop hydraulic pumping units. They are the only full hydraulic vise towers on the market today with full bi-directional hydraulic action the total travel length of each moving jaw [2.5" stroke on the 6" vises; 2.0" stroke on the 4" vises]. All eight stations on these vise towers can be controlled individually through the use of a manually controlled needle valve at the top of each 2-station vise and the manual hydraulic open/close valve on each face. The operator can completely disable the top station moving jaw on each vise and use only the bottom station, operating the main open/close hydraulic operating valve for that particular vise face. After clamping a part in the bottom station on a tower face, the operator can open the needle valve and allow the top station moving jaw to clamp a part placed in the top station after he loads the bottom station first. Leaving the needle valve closed on a face completely disables the top station moving jaw at any position along its full stroke of travel. These towers can be completely automated with solenoid valves operated and controlled by the internal solid state control board that in turn can be controlled by the machine control or a system programmable controller for complete automated integration into unmanned robotized cells. |

PROHOLD® PACHYDERM Vise Towers are powered by an external 24-volt DC power plug-in power supply [shown below]. 24-volt current powers the internal hydraulic gear pump motor. The pump only operates upon demand when it senses the need for pressure after the operator manually opens the hydraulic control valve or the top station needle control valve. The clamping force applied to all stations on the tower is adjusted manually through a #4 SAE plug in the top manifold cover of the tower. Adjustment sets the pressure switch to the desired operating pressure off the pump. Clamping force at 300psi is approximately .5 ton. Clamping force at 3500psi is approximately 5.5 tons. |

The hydraulic vises on these towers use standard aluminum soft jaws [shown in these pictures], machinable 1018 steel jaws, or quick change top jaws with hardened inserts. Configurations possible for the top jaws with hardened steel inserts are shown immediately below. |

PACHYDERM Vise Towers have cover plates on each vise that protect the internal cavities of the vise from being clogged with chips or swarf. Each moving jaw is capable of clamping inward against a stationary top jaw, or outward against two stationary top jaws mounted at the top and bottom of the vise ends. |

Since the PROHOLD® PACHYDERM Vise Tower is hydraulically actuated, its electrical control system allows it to be integrated into an automated cell with a horizontal machining center and robot to load and unload the tower, for a stand-alone, completely unmanned production system. Or, you can still use its push-button controls to bust those manual vise clusters. Toss those vise handles forever! |
