As far as size goes, PROHOLD® tombstones and fixtures can be scaled up to meet the needs required to get the part on the machine accurately and securely for all machining operations. This example is a large manual PROHOLD® model that has been used for several years for the machining of very large butterfly valve bodies. It is designed to hold a family of similar valve bodies that range in size, using quick-change jaws to setup for each different size. This tombstone is custom in the sense that the chucking mechanisms were offset to accommodate the range in sizes from the smallest to the largest valve body run across this fixture. Mounted on top of the tombstone is a Low-Profile 2-Chuck Fixture to get more work into the machine envelope in a different orientation. This is a manual model, however, it can be made with hydraulic actuation. A fixture of this type can now also be made with the new indexible PROHOLD® chucking modules which allow five-side machining in one chucking operation, eliminating the "A" and "B" load sequence.

PROHOLD® can mix and match any of its patented PROHOLD® products into its fixtures and tombstones, as required, to satisfy just about any particular manufacturing requirement presented. PROHOLD® can package, where necessary and feasible, two or more different PROHOLD® models, like the manual PROHOLD® tombstone and Low-Profile 2-Chuck fixture seen here, and also integrate standard modular fixturing components onto the fixturing if the need arises. PROHOLD® fixturing essentially eliminates the need for modular tooling components just because of the inherent capabilities of the PROHOLD® concept.

This is a 10-chuck, 2-jaw PROHOLD® tombstone designed to hold two larger butterfly valve bodies and discs on the wide faces, and hold three smaller size butterfly valve bodies and discs on the smaller faces.
This design allows for production of different parts in a complete famly of butterfly valves on the tombstone at the same time, or all of the same on 10 stations. All that is necessary is to change out the top jaws for each different size of part. Each jaw has 1/4" total travel in its pocket.
